Here are some learning highlights from this week:
Alberta Adventures through Virtual Field Trip and Alberta Symbols represented in Visual Sketch Journals:

The trees are draped in diamonds. Nature inspires us to create similes and metaphors at recess.
Instant Design Challenge in the Maker Space -- Take a look at design thinking in action. We are moving now in science from Waste in Our World to Simple Machines so I gave them a challenge to create a prototype of a simple machine that would move larger objects. Here are some photos for you to see the engagement and collaboration. They ideate, built and tested all in about 40 minutes.
Ask your child what they built. Here are some discussion questions: How do simple machines make work easier? How many different simple machines are there? What are they called? How are simple machines connected to complex machines?

Here is an open ended math problem that I put up this week. I asked what the following bar graph could be representing. We came up with many ideas from Waste in our World to How much time we spent on various tasks that day.
